The most authentic collection of hadith after the Qur’an. Compiled by Imam al-Bukhari over 16 years; contains ~7,563 hadiths across 97 books.
Sahih Muslim
Imam Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (d. 261 AH)
صحيح مسلم
The second most authentic hadith collection. Renowned for its rigorous chain-of-narrators methodology; contains ~7,500 hadiths.
Sunan Abi Dawud
Imam Abu Dawud as-Sijistani (d. 275 AH)
سنن أبي داود
One of the six canonical Sunan collections, focused on legal hadiths used in Islamic jurisprudence.
Jami at-Tirmidhi
Imam Abu Isa at-Tirmidhi (d. 279 AH)
جامع الترمذي
A comprehensive collection notable for grading each hadith and noting differences between scholars.
Sunan an-Nasa'i
Imam Ahmad an-Nasa'i (d. 303 AH)
سنن النسائي
Considered after Bukhari and Muslim in the strictness of its narrators.
Sunan Ibn Majah
Imam Muhammad ibn Majah (d. 273 AH)
سنن ابن ماجه
The sixth of the Kutub al-Sittah; contains many hadiths not found in the other five.
Muwatta Malik
Imam Malik ibn Anas (d. 179 AH)
